- 2 slices of bread (white, whole wheat, sourdough, or brioche)
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon butter or olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional toppings: shredded cheese, sliced avocado, cherry tomatoes, spinach, herbs, chili flakes
Instructions
1. Prepare the Bread
- Lay out your slices of bread on a flat surface
- Use a small glass or cookie cutter to cut a hole in the center of each slice (about 2 inches wide)
- Alternatively, press the center down with a spoon to create a shallow well without cutting through
2. Butter the Bread
- Lightly butter one or both sides of the bread slices for extra crispness and flavor
- You can also brush with olive oil if preferred
3. Preheat the Air Fryer
- Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 2–3 minutes
- Lightly grease the air fryer basket or tray to prevent sticking
4. Crack the Eggs
- Carefully place each slice of prepared bread into the air fryer basket
- Crack one egg into the center hole or well of each slice
- Season with salt and pepper as desired
5. Air Fry the Toast
- Cook for 7–9 minutes, depending on how runny or firm you like your egg yolk
- For a softer yolk, start checking at the 7-minute mark
- Add cheese or toppings in the last 2 minutes of cooking if desired
6. Remove and Serve
- Use a spatula to gently lift egg toast from the air fryer
- Garnish with herbs, avocado slices, or chili flakes
- Serve warm with a side of fruit, salad, or extra toast
