Ingredients
- 1 (20 oz) bag of frozen curly fries (Arby’s-style or seasoned variety)
- 1 lb ground beef or ground turkey (halal-certified)
- 1 small yellow onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (10.5 oz) can cream of mushroom soup (or cream of chicken)
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (plus extra for topping)
- 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder (optional, for a little kick)
- 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
- Non-stick cooking spray or a little olive oil for greasing
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch casserole dish with cooking spray or a little olive oil. This helps prevent sticking and makes cleanup easier later on.
In a large skillet over medium heat, add your ground beef or turkey. Break it up with a wooden spoon and let it cook for about 5–7 minutes until it starts browning. Add the chopped onions and garlic, and sauté together until the onions turn translucent and the meat is fully cooked. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
Sprinkle in your paprika, cumin, black pepper, salt, and optional chili powder. Stir to coat the meat evenly with all those aromatic spices. Let it simmer for another 2 minutes so the flavors really soak in.
In a separate bowl, combine the cream of mushroom (or chicken) soup with the sour cream. Whisk until smooth, then fold in your shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheese. This forms the creamy, cheesy middle layer that brings everything together.
Scoop the meat mixture into the bottom of your greased casserole dish, spreading it out evenly. Pour the cheesy cream mixture on top, smoothing it with a spatula to cover all the meat. Now comes the fun part—arrange your curly fries on top in a single, even layer. No need to thaw them beforehand.
Slide your casserole into the preheated oven and bake uncovered for 35–40 minutes, or until the fries are golden and crispy on top and the cheese is bubbling underneath. If you want the fries extra crispy, you can switch to broil for the last 2–3 minutes—just keep an eye on it so it doesn’t burn.
Once it’s out of the oven, sprinkle with a handful of shredded cheddar cheese and sliced green onions for that final touch. Let it sit for 5 minutes before serving to allow the layers to settle. Serve warm and enjoy every twisty, melty bite.
