For the Beef & Peppers:
- 1 lb beef sirloin (thinly sliced against the grain)
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce (for a hint of sweetness)
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for stir-frying)
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
- 2 bell peppers (any color), sliced into thin strips
- 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for spice)
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch (to thicken the sauce)
- ½ cup beef broth or water
For the Rice:
- 2 cups cooked jasmine rice (or any rice of choice)
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
For Garnishing:
- 2 green onions, chopped
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
- ½ teaspoon chili flakes (optional for heat)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Beef
- Thinly slice the beef sirloin against the grain to ensure tenderness.
- In a medium bowl, mix soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, and sesame oil.
- Toss the beef in the marinade, making sure it’s well coated. Let it sit for 10 minutes while you prepare the other ingredients.
Step 2: Cook the Rice
- If you haven’t already, cook 2 cups of rice according to package instructions.
- Once done, fluff the rice with a fork and mix in sesame oil, soy sauce, and a pinch of salt for extra flavor.
Step 3: Sauté the Aromatics
- Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
- Add the sliced onions and sauté for about 2 minutes until slightly translucent.
- Stir in the minced garlic and grated ginger, cooking for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
Step 4: Stir-Fry the Beef
- Increase the heat to high and add the marinated beef to the pan.
- Sear for about 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the beef is browned and cooked through.
- Remove the beef from the pan and set aside.
Step 5: Cook the Peppers
- In the same pan, add another 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil.
- Toss in the sliced bell peppers and cook for 3-4 minutes until slightly tender but still crisp.
Step 6: Make the Sauce
- In a small bowl, mix cornstarch with beef broth to create a slurry.
- Pour the slurry into the pan along with the beef, stirring well.
- Simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the beef and peppers beautifully.
Step 7: Assemble the Rice Bowl
- Divide the cooked rice into bowls.
- Top each bowl with the beef and pepper stir-fry.
- Garnish with green onions, sesame seeds, and chili flakes for extra flavor.
