  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for stir-frying)
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 bell peppers (any color), sliced into thin strips
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for spice)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (to thicken the sauce)
  • ½ cup beef broth or water

For the Rice:

  • 2 cups cooked jasmine rice (or any rice of choice)
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce

For Garnishing:

  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
  • ½ teaspoon chili flakes (optional for heat)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Beef

  • Thinly slice the beef sirloin against the grain to ensure tenderness.
  • In a medium bowl, mix soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, and sesame oil.
  • Toss the beef in the marinade, making sure it’s well coated. Let it sit for 10 minutes while you prepare the other ingredients.

Step 2: Cook the Rice

  • If you haven’t already, cook 2 cups of rice according to package instructions.
  • Once done, fluff the rice with a fork and mix in sesame oil, soy sauce, and a pinch of salt for extra flavor.

Step 3: Sauté the Aromatics

  • Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  • Add the sliced onions and sauté for about 2 minutes until slightly translucent.
  • Stir in the minced garlic and grated ginger, cooking for another 30 seconds until fragrant.

Step 4: Stir-Fry the Beef

  • Increase the heat to high and add the marinated beef to the pan.
  • Sear for about 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the beef is browned and cooked through.
  • Remove the beef from the pan and set aside.

Step 5: Cook the Peppers

  • In the same pan, add another 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil.
  • Toss in the sliced bell peppers and cook for 3-4 minutes until slightly tender but still crisp.

Step 6: Make the Sauce

  • In a small bowl, mix cornstarch with beef broth to create a slurry.
  • Pour the slurry into the pan along with the beef, stirring well.
  • Simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the beef and peppers beautifully.

Step 7: Assemble the Rice Bowl

  • Divide the cooked rice into bowls.
  • Top each bowl with the beef and pepper stir-fry.
  • Garnish with green onions, sesame seeds, and chili flakes for extra flavor.
