– 1 tablespoon onion powder
– 1 tablespoon dried thyme

– 1 onion, quartered
– 1 lemon, quartered
– 4 cups low-sodium chicken broth
– Fresh herbs (thyme, rosemary, sage) for stuffing, optional
– Kitchen twine
Instructions
Creating the Classic Roast Turkey is straightforward with these simple steps:
1. Defrost the Turkey: If frozen, ensure your turkey is completely thawed, ideally in the refrigerator for several days before cooking.
2. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
3. Prepare the Turkey: Remove the giblets and neck from the turkey cavity. Pat the turkey dry using paper towels.
4. Season the Turkey: In a small bowl, mix together the softened butter, kosher salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, rosemary, and sage. Spread this herb butter mixture all over the turkey, including under the skin and inside the cavity.
5. Stuff the Turkey: Stuff the cavity with the quartered onion, lemon, and fresh herbs, if using.
6. Truss the Turkey: Use kitchen twine to tie the legs together and tuck the wing tips under the body for even cooking.
7. Prepare for Roasting: Place the turkey on a rack in a roasting pan. Pour 2 cups of chicken broth into the bottom of the pan.
8. Roast the Turkey: Cover the turkey loosely with aluminum foil and roast in the preheated oven. Plan for about 13-15 minutes per pound of turkey.
9. Baste the Turkey: Every 30 minutes, remove the foil and baste the turkey with the juices in the pan. Replace the foil after basting.
10. Check the Temperature: About 30 minutes before the end of cooking, remove the foil for a crispy skin. Roast until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C) in the thickest part of the breast and 180°F (82°C) in the thigh.
11. Let it Rest: Once cooked, remove the turkey from the oven and let it rest for at least 30 minutes before carving. This allows the juices to redistribute.
12. Carve and Serve: Slice the turkey and arrange it on a serving platter. Enjoy!
By following these steps carefully, you’ll create a Classic Roast Turkey that is both impressive and delicious!
