Ingredients
– 1 cup granulated sugar (for caramel)
– 6 large eggs
– 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
– 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
– 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
– Pinch of salt
Instructions
Making flan can be surprisingly straightforward if you follow these clear steps:
1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. Prepare Caramel: In a medium saucepan, heat the sugar over medium-low heat. Stir constantly until it melts and turns golden brown. Quickly pour it into a round baking dish, tilting to coat the bottom evenly.
3. Blend Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the eggs, sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Blend until smooth and creamy.
4. Add to Baking Dish: Pour the flan mixture into the caramel-coated baking dish.
5. Create a Water Bath: Place the baking dish in a larger baking pan. Fill the larger pan with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the flan dish.
6. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes or until the flan is set. You can check doneness by inserting a knife into the center; it should come out clean.
7. Cool: Remove from the oven and let the flan cool down at room temperature for about 1 hour.
Once cooled, refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight for best results.
