Fried Cheese Stuffed Doritos

  • Author: Olivia
  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

For the Cheese Filling:

  • 12 oz block mozzarella cheese, cut into 1-inch cubes (or cheese sticks, halved)

For the Coating:

  • 2 cups crushed Doritos (choose your favorite flavor: Nacho Cheese, Cool Ranch, or Spicy Sweet Chili)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 2 tbsp milk

For Frying:

  • 23 cups vegetable oil (for deep frying)

Optional Garnishes and Dipping Sauces:

  • Chopped fresh parsley
  • Ranch dressing
  • Marinara sauce
  • Spicy mayo

Instructions

1. Prepare the Cheese Cubes

  1. Cut a block of mozzarella into 1-inch cubes, or halve pre-cut cheese sticks for uniform pieces. Place them on a plate and freeze for 15–20 minutes. This prevents the cheese from melting too quickly while frying.

2. Crush the Doritos

  1. Place the Doritos in a resealable plastic bag and crush them using a rolling pin until they form fine crumbs. Alternatively, use a food processor for a more uniform texture. Transfer the crumbs to a shallow bowl.

3. Set Up the Breading Station

  1. Prepare three shallow bowls:
    • Bowl 1: Flour for the first coating.
    • Bowl 2: Beaten eggs mixed with milk.
    • Bowl 3: Crushed Doritos for the final coating.

4. Coat the Cheese

  1. Roll each frozen cheese cube in flour, ensuring it is fully coated. Shake off any excess.
  2. Dip the floured cube into the egg mixture, letting the excess drip off.
  3. Roll the cheese in the crushed Doritos, pressing gently to adhere the crumbs. For an extra-crispy coating, repeat steps 2 and 3 for a second layer.

5. Heat the Oil

  1. In a deep frying pan or saucepan, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to maintain a consistent temperature.

6. Fry the Cheese Stuffed Doritos

  1. Fry the coated cheese cubes in batches, about 4–5 at a time, for 1–2 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Avoid overcrowding the pan.
  2. Remove with a slotted spoon and transfer to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

7. Serve and Enjoy

  1. Transfer the Fried Cheese Stuffed Doritos to a serving platter. Garnish with parsley if desired and serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauces.
