Instructions
Follow these steps to create Gordon Ramsay’s Chicken Cordon Bleu:
1. Prepare the Chicken: Place each chicken breast between two pieces of plastic wrap. Using a meat mallet, gently pound the chicken to an even thickness, about 1/2 inch thick. This ensures even cooking.
2. Season the Chicken: Sprinkle both sides of the chicken breasts with salt and pepper.
3. Add Ham and Cheese: On one side of each chicken breast, layer a slice of ham followed by a slice of cheese.
4. Roll the Chicken: Starting from the ham side, carefully roll the chicken breast tightly. Secure with toothpicks or kitchen twine to hold the shape.
5. Prepare the Breading Stations: Set up three shallow dishes: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs.
6. Coat the Chicken: Dredge each rolled chicken breast in flour, shaking off excess. Next, dip it into the beaten eggs, allowing any excess to drip off. Finally, coat it with breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.
7. Heat the Oil: In a large skillet, heat olive oil or butter over medium heat.
8. Fry the Chicken: Once the oil is hot, carefully place the chicken rolls in the skillet. Fry for about 5-7 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through.
9. Cook Thoroughly: Ensure the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 165°F (75°C) by using a meat thermometer.
10. Rest the Chicken: Once cooked, remove the chicken from the skillet and allow it to rest for a few minutes before slicing.
11. Slice and Serve: Carefully remove the toothpicks or twine, slice the chicken rolls, and plate them for serving.
