Ingredients
For the cake:
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 ¾ cups granulated sugar
- 3 large eggs

- 1 cup buttermilk

For the frosting:
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3 ½ cups powdered sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1–2 tbsp heavy cream (as needed for consistency)
Optional decorations:
- Green sprinkles
- White chocolate shavings
- Edible gold dust
Instructions
1. Prepare the cake batter

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 9-inch cake pans with parchment paper.

In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

In a large mixing bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
2. Add wet and dry ingredients

Mix in the buttermilk, alternating with the dry ingredients, starting and ending with the flour mixture.

Stir in the vinegar, then add the green food coloring and mix until fully incorporated. Adjust color as needed.
3. Bake the cake

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.

Bake for 28-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
4. Make the frosting

In a large bowl, beat cream cheese and butter until smooth and creamy.

Gradually add powdered sugar, mixing until fluffy.

Stir in vanilla extract and add heavy cream as needed to reach a spreadable consistency.
5. Assemble and decorate

Place one cake layer on a serving plate and spread a generous layer of frosting on top.

Add the second cake layer and frost the top and sides evenly.

Decorate with green sprinkles, white chocolate shavings, or edible gold dust for a festive touch.
