Hot Ham and Cheese Pinwheels

  • Author: Olivia
  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 12 pinwheels 1x

Ingredients

Scale

For the Pinwheels:

  • 1 tube (8 ounces) refrigerated crescent roll dough (or puff pastry, thawed)
  • 68 slices of deli ham
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or your favorite cheese)
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard (optional, for added flavor)
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)

For the Topping:

  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Optional Dipping Sauces:

  • Honey mustard
  • Ranch dressing
  • Marinara sauce

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat for easy cleanup.
  2. Unroll the crescent roll dough or puff pastry onto a clean, lightly floured surface. Press the seams together if using crescent roll dough to create one smooth sheet.

Step 2: Add the Fillings

  1. Spread a thin, even layer of Dijon mustard (if using) over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
  2. Lay the slices of ham evenly across the dough, ensuring they cover the entire surface.
  3. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the ham. For extra flavor, sprinkle garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika on top of the cheese.

Step 3: Roll and Slice

  1. Starting at one of the shorter ends, roll the dough tightly into a log, similar to rolling a jelly roll.
  2. Use a sharp knife to slice the log into 12 even pieces. Wipe the knife clean between cuts to keep the slices neat.

Step 4: Arrange and Brush

  1. Place the pinwheels cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 1 inch apart.
  2. Brush the tops of the pinwheels with the beaten egg to help them achieve a golden-brown color during baking. Sprinkle with sesame seeds or Parmesan cheese, if desired.

Step 5: Bake

  1. Bake the pinwheels in the preheated oven for 18–20 minutes, or until the dough is puffed and golden and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  2. Remove from the oven and let the pinwheels cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Step 6: Serve

Transfer the pinwheels to a serving platter and serve warm with your favorite dipping sauces. These pinwheels are best enjoyed fresh but can be reheated in the oven or air fryer if needed.
