  • Author: Olivia
  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

For the Shrimp:

  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 2 cups panko breadcrumbs (for extra crunch)
  • Vegetable oil for frying

For the Hot Honey Glaze:

  • ½ cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust for spice level)
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce (such as sriracha or cayenne-based sauce)
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Shrimp

Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels. Season with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika. Let them sit for 5 minutes to absorb the flavors.

Step 2: Set Up the Breading Stations

Prepare three separate bowls:

  1. Bowl 1 – Buttermilk and beaten eggs (whisk together).

  2. Bowl 2 – Flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and cayenne pepper (mix well).

  3. Bowl 3 – Panko breadcrumbs for an extra crispy coating.

Step 3: Coat the Shrimp

Dip each shrimp into the flour mixture, shaking off excess. Then, dip into the buttermilk-egg mixture, and finally coat with panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.

Step 4: Fry Until Golden and Crispy

Heat oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry the shrimp in batches for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy. Drain on a paper towel-lined plate.

Step 5: Make the Hot Honey Glaze

In a small saucepan, warm the honey over low heat. Stir in red pepper flakes, hot sauce, apple cider vinegar, garlic powder, and salt. Simmer for 1-2 minutes, then remove from heat.

Step 6: Coat the Shrimp in Hot Honey

Drizzle the hot honey glaze over the crispy shrimp or toss them gently in a bowl to fully coat. Serve immediately for the best texture.
