  • Yield: 6 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

For the Beans:

  • 1 pound kielbasa sausage, sliced into 1/2-inch rounds
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (15-ounce) can pinto beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 (15-ounce) can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 (15-ounce) can baked beans

For the Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup barbecue sauce (your favorite variety)
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder (optional, for heat)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Instructions

Step 1: Cook the Kielbasa

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat.
  2. Add the kielbasa slices in a single layer and cook for 3–5 minutes until browned on both sides. Remove from the skillet and set aside.

Step 2: Sauté the Aromatics

  1. In the same skillet, add the diced onion and garlic.
  2. Sauté for 2–3 minutes over medium heat, stirring frequently, until the onion is softened and fragrant.

Step 3: Combine Ingredients

  1. Return the browned kielbasa to the skillet.
  2. Add the pinto beans, kidney beans, and baked beans.
  3. Stir in the barbecue sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, and chili powder.

Step 4: Simmer the Dish

  1. Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer uncovered for 15–20 minutes.
  2. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking and ensure the flavors meld together.

Step 5: Serve

  1. Adjust seasoning with salt and black pepper to taste.
  2. Serve warm with cornbread, crusty bread, or as a side dish to grilled meats.
