Scale
For the Dough:
- 2 ¼ tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm water (110°F/43°C)
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp sugar
- 2 tbsp olive oil
For the Garlic Butter Topping:
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- ¼ cup grated parmesan cheese (plus more for topping, if desired)
- Optional: pinch of dried parsley for garnish
For Serving:
- ½ cup marinara sauce or pizza sauce for dipping
Instructions
1. Activate the Yeast
- In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for 5–10 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy.
2. Make the Dough
- Add flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture.
- Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 6–8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
3. Shape the Breadsticks
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces.
- Roll each piece into a breadstick shape, about 6 inches long.
- Arrange them on a parchment-lined or greased baking sheet, spacing slightly apart.
4. Bake the Breadsticks
- Bake in the preheated oven for 12–15 minutes, or until the tops are lightly golden and the breadsticks are cooked through.
5. Make the Garlic Butter
- While the breadsticks are baking, melt the butter and stir in the garlic powder and half of the parmesan cheese.
6. Brush and Serve
- As soon as the breadsticks come out of the oven, brush them generously with the garlic butter mixture.
- Sprinkle with the remaining parmesan cheese and optional parsley.
- Serve warm with marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
