Maple Glazed Turkey Bacon Crack

  • Author: Olivia
  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 12 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

For the Maple Glaze:

  • ½ cup pure maple syrup
  • ¼ cup packed brown sugar (light or dark)
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)

For the Bacon Crack:

  • 1 pound turkey bacon (about 12 strips)
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted (for brushing)
  • Optional: Chopped pecans or walnuts for garnish

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat and Prepare the Baking Sheet

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Line a large baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper to make cleanup easier. Place a wire rack on top of the baking sheet to allow the bacon to crisp evenly.

Step 2: Make the Maple Glaze

  • In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the maple syrup, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper (if using).
  • Stir continuously until the sugar is fully dissolved and the mixture is slightly thickened, about 3-5 minutes.
  • Remove the glaze from heat and set aside to cool slightly.

Step 3: Arrange the Bacon

  • Lay the turkey bacon strips in a single layer on the wire rack, ensuring no overlap for even cooking.
  • Lightly brush the bacon with melted butter to enhance browning and crispiness.

Step 4: Glaze and Bake

  • Using a pastry brush, generously coat each strip of turkey bacon with the maple glaze.
  • Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 15 minutes.
  • Remove the bacon, flip each strip, and brush the other side with more glaze.
  • Bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the bacon is caramelized and crisp. Keep an eye on the bacon during the last few minutes to prevent burning.

Step 5: Garnish and Serve

  • If desired, sprinkle chopped pecans or walnuts over the bacon during the last 5 minutes of baking for added crunch and flavor.
  • Let the bacon cool on the rack for 5 minutes before serving. This allows the glaze to set and the bacon to crisp further.
