Ingredients

Scale

For the Chicken:

  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, sliced into thin cutlets
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

For the Tortellini:

  • 1 (20-ounce) package cheese tortellini (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 teaspoon salt (for boiling water)

For the Marry Me Sauce:

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for spice)
  • ½ cup sun-dried tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (for depth of flavor)
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

For Garnish & Serving:

  • ¼ cup extra Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 tablespoon fresh basil, chopped
  • Cracked black pepper, to taste
  • Garlic bread or side salad (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Cook the Chicken

  • Season the chicken: Pat the chicken breasts dry with paper towels. Sprinkle both sides with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika.
  • Sear the chicken: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat.
  • Add the chicken cutlets and cook for 4-5 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through.
  • Remove the chicken from the skillet and place it on a plate. Cover loosely with foil to keep warm.

Step 2: Cook the Tortellini

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
  • Add the tortellini and cook according to the package instructions (usually 3-5 minutes for fresh, 8-10 minutes for frozen).
  • Reserve ½ cup of pasta water, then drain and set aside.

Step 3: Make the Marry Me Sauce

  • Melt the butter in the same skillet over medium heat.
  • Add minced garlic and red pepper flakes and sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  • Stir in the chopped sun-dried tomatoes and cook for another 1-2 minutes.
  • Pour in the chicken broth, scraping up any browned bits from the pan for extra flavor.
  • Reduce heat to medium-low and add heavy cream, Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, Dijon mustard, and black pepper.
  • Simmer the sauce for 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently, until it thickens slightly.

Step 4: Combine Everything

  • Slice the cooked chicken into strips or bite-sized pieces.
  • Add the drained tortellini to the skillet, tossing to coat in the creamy sauce.
  • Stir in the sliced chicken, allowing everything to warm through for 2 minutes.
  • If the sauce is too thick, add a splash of reserved pasta water to loosen it.

Step 5: Garnish and Serve

  • Sprinkle with extra Parmesan cheese and fresh basil.
  • Add a touch of cracked black pepper for extra flavor.
  • Serve immediately with garlic bread, a side salad, or roasted vegetables.
  • Enjoy your creamy, indulgent Marry Me Chicken Tortellini!
