Ingredients

– 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
– 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
– 1 package (10 oz) mini marshmallows
– Red gel food coloring
– Blue gel food coloring
– 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
– Cooking spray or wax paper for easy handling
– Optional: sprinkles in patriotic colors for decoration

Instructions

Creating your own Patriotic Rice Krispies is a straightforward process. Just follow these simple steps:

1. Prepare the Pan: Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with cooking spray or line it with wax paper for easy removal.

2. Melt Butter: In a large saucepan over low heat, melt the butter completely.

3. Add Marshmallows: Once melted, add the mini marshmallows. Stir continuously until they are fully melted and smooth.

4. Flavor It: Remove the pan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.

5. Add Cereal: Gradually add the Rice Krispies cereal, mixing until the cereal is well coated with the marshmallow mixture.

6. Divide the Mixture: Divide the mixture into three equal parts in separate bowls.

7. Color the Mixtures:
– In the first bowl, add red gel food coloring to create a vibrant red mixture. Stir until the color is uniform.
– In the second bowl, leave the mixture plain for the white layer.
– In the third bowl, add blue gel food coloring, stirring to achieve a bright blue color.

8. Layer the Mixtures: Start by placing the red mixture in the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Press it down gently with a spatula to flatten.

9. Add the White Mixture: Next, add the plain Rice Krispies mixture on top of the red layer, pressing down to set.

10. Finish with Blue: Finally, add the blue Rice Krispies mixture on top, pressing down firmly to compact it.

11. Cool and Set: Allow the layered Rice Krispies treats to cool and set for about 15 minutes at room temperature.

12. Cut into Squares: Once set, cut into squares or use cookie cutters to create fun shapes.

13. Optional Decoration: If you wish, sprinkle some festive sprinkles on top for an added festive touch.
