For the Sandwich:

  • 4 slices of bread (white, sourdough, or whole wheat)
  • 4 tablespoons marinara or pizza sauce
  • 1 cup (100g) shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 810 slices of pepperoni (or preferred pizza topping)
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened

Optional Toppings and Additions:

  • Sliced black olives
  • Sautéed mushrooms
  • Sliced bell peppers
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • Grated Parmesan cheese

For Dipping:

  • Additional marinara or pizza sauce

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Ingredients

  1. Lay out the bread slices on a clean surface.
  2. Spread 1 tablespoon of marinara or pizza sauce on one side of each slice.
  3. Sprinkle ¼ cup of shredded mozzarella cheese on two of the slices.
  4. Layer the pepperoni or your preferred toppings over the cheese. Add more cheese on top for extra gooeyness.
  5. Place the remaining bread slices on top, sauce side facing inward, to form a sandwich.

Step 2: Butter the Bread

  1. Spread a thin, even layer of softened butter on the outside of each sandwich. This helps achieve a golden, crispy crust during cooking.

Step 3: Cook the Sandwiches

  1. Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat.
  2. Place the sandwiches in the skillet, buttered side down. Cook for 3–4 minutes, or until the bottom is golden brown and crispy.
  3. Carefully flip the sandwiches using a spatula and cook the other side for another 3–4 minutes, until crispy and the cheese is melted. Reduce the heat slightly if needed to prevent burning.

Step 4: Serve

  1. Remove the sandwiches from the skillet and let them cool for 1–2 minutes.
  2. Slice diagonally for a classic presentation and serve with extra marinara sauce for dipping.
