- 1 cup (100g) shredded mozzarella cheese
- 8–10 slices of pepperoni (or preferred pizza topping)
- 2 tablespoons butter, softened
Optional Toppings and Additions:
- Sliced black olives
- Sautéed mushrooms
- Sliced bell peppers
- Fresh basil leaves
- Grated Parmesan cheese
For Dipping:
- Additional marinara or pizza sauce
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Ingredients
- Lay out the bread slices on a clean surface.
- Spread 1 tablespoon of marinara or pizza sauce on one side of each slice.
- Sprinkle ¼ cup of shredded mozzarella cheese on two of the slices.
- Layer the pepperoni or your preferred toppings over the cheese. Add more cheese on top for extra gooeyness.
- Place the remaining bread slices on top, sauce side facing inward, to form a sandwich.
Step 2: Butter the Bread
- Spread a thin, even layer of softened butter on the outside of each sandwich. This helps achieve a golden, crispy crust during cooking.
Step 3: Cook the Sandwiches
- Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat.
- Place the sandwiches in the skillet, buttered side down. Cook for 3–4 minutes, or until the bottom is golden brown and crispy.
- Carefully flip the sandwiches using a spatula and cook the other side for another 3–4 minutes, until crispy and the cheese is melted. Reduce the heat slightly if needed to prevent burning.
Step 4: Serve
- Remove the sandwiches from the skillet and let them cool for 1–2 minutes.
- Slice diagonally for a classic presentation and serve with extra marinara sauce for dipping.
