Ingredients
– 1 can (14-15 oz) of salmon, drained and flaked
– 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably whole wheat)
– 1 large egg
– 1/4 cup mayonnaise
– 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
– 1 tablespoon lemon juice
– 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
– 1/4 cup finely chopped bell pepper (optional)
– 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
– 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
– Salt to taste
– Olive oil or cooking spray for frying
Instructions
Creating salmon patties is simple if you follow these steps:
1. Prepare the Salmon: Drain the canned salmon and place it in a large mixing bowl. Flake it apart with a fork.
2. Combine Ingredients: Add the breadcrumbs, egg, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, onion, bell pepper, garlic powder, black pepper, and salt to the bowl with the salmon.
3. Mix Well: Stir until all the ingredients are thoroughly combined. The mixture should be moist but firm enough to hold its shape.
4. Form Patties: Use your hands to shape the mixture into patties. Aim for about 3-4 inches in diameter and 1/2 inch thick. You should get around 6-8 patties, depending on the size.
5. Heat the Pan: In a large skillet, heat a tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. If using cooking spray, lightly coat the pan.
6. Cook the Patties: Place the patties in the skillet, leaving space between each one. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.
7. Drain Excess Oil: Once cooked, transfer the patties to a paper towel-lined plate to absorb any excess oil.
8. Repeat: You may need to cook in batches, depending on the size of your skillet.
9. Serve: Enjoy the patties warm, straight from the skillet.
